The Jacuzzi® company is thrilled to welcome our latest family of hot tubs to our product lineup — the J-XL® Collection featuring the first-of-its-kind patent-pending IR and Red Light therapy, which work together to take hydrotherapy to the next level. This article features insight from Erica Moir, Vice President of Designs and Advanced Technologies for Jacuzzi Group, regarding some of the most unique features of this new collection, how IR and Red Light therapy work and more. Read on to discover how this combination of applications can further enhance your hot tub experience.

The J-XL® Collection is the result of a lot of dedicated research into how IR could be applied in an underwater hydrotherapy experience. The Jacuzzi® brand had already been well-versed in the application of IR therapy in saunas. Upon seeing the benefits of IR therapy in saunas, the company dedicated additional research to developing Infrared for hot tubs. Moir says they worked with a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic to develop a research white paper on the technology and its benefits specific to underwater application.

“Following the conclusion of the research, we knew there was something amazing here that we could bring to our spa customers,” says Moir. “We started working with an experienced development partner to identify the exact wavelength output requirements for the near IR (NIR) and the Red Light therapy in the underwater application.”

The result is the J-LX® Collection, which we launched in July. Both models in the collection, the J-LX® hot tub with open seating and the J-LXL® hot tub with lounger, include IR and Red Light therapy as a standard feature. The IR and Red Light therapy have been integrated into the hot tub’s FX Therapy seats in both models.

What is Infrared and Red Light therapy?

For those new to Infrared and Red Light therapy, Moir explains exactly what it is and how it benefits your spa experience. One aspect that makes this therapy unique is it specifically targets a common pain that many people around the globe suffer from — lower back pain (LBP).

“According to the WHO, an estimated 619 million people live worldwide with LBP, having the highest prevalence globally among musculoskeletal conditions,” says Moir. “With this knowledge, we decided to focus solely on the lower back of our FX therapy seat. The application of near IR to the lower back muscles promotes healing and recovery with consistent use of the therapy.”

The near IR waves in the J-LX® hot tubs penetrate below the skin into deeper muscle tissue specifically in the lower back area. You can select the IR and Red Light therapy session from the topside control and it will run for a 20-minute cycle. “The nice part is, it is integrated into our Jacuzzi® SmartTub® remote monitoring system and app, allowing you to keep track of your IR and hydrotherapy sessions with ease,” Moir adds.

Is Infrared and Red Light therapy safe?

The short answer is yes. The Jacuzzi® company has tested this product to the IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety Standard in both a wet and dry application in a third-party laboratory.

What is the Jacuzzi® FX therapy seat?

The FX-IR seat featured in both hot tubs in the J-LX® Collection performs the brand’s most advanced hydrotherapy, combining full-back and neck hydromassage with near Infrared and deep Red Light therapy on the lumbar region of the lower back.

What other features does the J-LX® Collection have?

In creating the next level of hydrotherapy, the hot tubs in the J-LX® Collection offer the ultimate wellness experience.

“Beyond the exclusive patent-pending new IR and Red Light therapy features, we have incorporated the best of our hydrotherapy jets and filtration technology,” says Moir. “The J-LX® models offer a clean aesthetic with very linear styling from the outside with comfort and therapy focus on the interior. Thoughtfully designed interiors with quiet bubbling water features combine for a sleek, modern collection.”
